Yes, I would argue that head injuries, and many other injuries, would decrease if participants in sports where helmets are currently worn removed their helmets. It's called risk compensation and pro athletes take it to the extreme. It does make for good TV though.

You brought up child seats as if their construction and purpose is somehow related to a bicycle helmet. I simply pointed out that they are not infallible either, much like bicycle helmets (though I'd argue that a child seat does more of what it's assumed to do than a bicycle helmet).
