Don't remember if I figured it out myself or learned from someone else that way of wrappng the bar tape, but it sure works well to keep it all in place for a long time.
I never had problems with using black electircal tape at the stem because the tape matches or works well my bikes which were all grey, black and white. Anyway, if you have to match a cerain primary colored bike, there are electrical tapes of different colrs available.
