Need some experienced insight into a SS crankset that will fit a Cannondale M400
Hello folks,
I've drug an old but barely used Cannondale M400 out of the basement and have decided to press it into service.
I have also decided to make this bike a simple pedal and go road oriented type and so I have made the decision to go single-speed. I am very close to completion on this bike but have run into a problem with the crankset I purchased. I picked up a Miche Advanced Track 48t Crankset, honestly for no other reason than I've seen it on another bike and it looked "purdy", looked to visually complement the bike nicely, was 'track' oriented and to my 'uneducated' observation it seems many folks that converted their bikes to SS seemed to adopt the 'lighweight track/road crankset' and so I followed suit as I assumed that somewhat following others that have done this will keep me out of trouble.
Cutting to the chase: the cranks chain wheel and crank arm sit too close to the chain stays when they are mated to the bottom bracket. They actually 'hit' the chain stays so I am unable to fasten them down completely. Alas I know I have to abandon and 'ebay' this crankset but I find myself totally lost as to what crankset with a single and at least a 46t chainwheel will give the clearance that this frame demands.
My intent with this bike is to use it strictly as a road bike, no off-road, I have already put the 26" gatorskins on the wheels so this is just going to be the ride on the bike path and cruise about the neighborhood while a fella in his mid 30's tries to work on getting himself in shape.
I've been away from bicycles for quite some time and to be honest, when I was a frequent rider I was a teen/early twenties and cant state that I was highly knowledgeable about much back then either, thus I find myself a bit lost and unsure what will fit and fit the bill to keep this bike focused on 'road work'.
I wonder if anyone here has some suggestions as to a crankset that would work with this particular bike (Cannondale M400 circa 2000 CADD2 aluminum Frame, 110mm Shimano sealed bearing BB I believe).
I've tried to search about for information or others that have this frame but alas I supposed it is considered old but this is a bike that truly has not been ridden more than 10-times since it was purchased brand new and has spent the past decade in the basement collecting cobwebs. It's physically and mechanically in superb shape and after a cleanup looks brand-spankin-new, I just cant seem to find any information on it anywhere to get a sense of direction on where to go with regard the crankset choices that will work for the application I'm looking for.
I had originally thought to post this at the SS and Fixed forum but that section seems quite focused on road bike frames and not so much on the Mountain bike side of the fence and I feel that I am somewhat building a hybrid so I took a leap and posted here. Again, if I have posted in the wrong section please forgive and give me an idea of what is a more appropriate forum which to pose my situation..
Any help will be much appreciated.
