I have a saddle bag that has multitool, tube, and mini-pump strapped on. The only other thing I need to carry is a lock. I'm surprised so many people always carry a bag no matter what their mission. Besides, I commute daily with a filled bag and its refreshing to ride without one I think.
Count your blessings to live somewhere where everything attached to a bike actually has a chance of remaining on the bike when it's locked up.
I carry a bag, even though it's annoying sometimes, because anything left unattended on a bike in L.A. will wander off.
