Diiiisc brakes, some people also like kool-stop salmon pads... but those have iron particles in them and really are abusive to the rim.

If you leave the water-bottle upside down in the holder you get more nozzle time... also insulated "polar bottles" help.

Sluggish shifting might mean moisture in the derailleur cable.
