It's, fortunately, been clear and cold here in Boston lately with not much snow or ice left on the roads- haven't taken the bike path in a while but I'm sure there's not much snow on it but probably lots of ice patches due to drainage issues. Have been only too happy to not take the winter bike with the studs and ride the usual commuter with the narrow profile slick tire so I'm sticking to the roads.
My commutes have been faster. The ride in today was fine but there was work being done on Commonwealth Ave by National Grid and it was down to one lane- not much of a problem for me on the bike but the traffic was seriously tied up and after it opened back up to two lanes the drivers moved into high aggression mode and a guy in mini-van jammed right up behind me and leaned on his horn just before I got to the bike lane. Odd thing was I changed nothing about my position on the road but as soon as I got to the marked bike lane he backed off as if to say, "It's okay to ride out in the road in the bike lane but if the bike lane isn't there get out of my way." Sometimes you just can't win.
Ride home tonight was great. Lots of drunks and pedestrians- it was 11:30 pm. About 17〫F with a tiny headwind but I was warm and toasty.
