Hi everyone!

This is my very first post, so hopefully I didn't post it in the wrong section or something like that. This place is HUGE!

My question arises concerning a guy on craigslist selling a new bike. Someone told me that there are people out there that buy bikes from china that aren't "legit". How would I know if a bike isn't legit? What are the differences? I know that Companies such as Specialized Gary Fisher and many more import their bikes from different countries, but exactly how can I determine which ones are legit?
