It should not fall onto cyclists shoulders to perform a rights protest and education seminar for motorists when taking to the roadways. Bicyclists should not have to perform that social function.
Which laws are discriminating against you specifically in washington state you need change to, Dan, and why?
Not Dan, but other's manufactured concerns about some blanket condition arising from discriminatory laws is misleading. Complaints of discrimination from a supposed lack of federal recognition of 'bicyclists as drivers of vehicles' fails to recognize official federal transportation policy regarding bike traffic, lumps state laws regarding bicyclists into a misleading homogeneous muddle and fails to address even basic engineering isssues regarding mixing bikes and car traffic on roads.
issues recognized even by john forester 40 years ago- how to best plan for bike traffic on high speed, high volume roads with dedicated right turning traffic and preferred class vehicle lanes/shoulders at significant intersections.
High speed high volume roads with sigificant RTO traffic is just one of the MANY myriad facets showcasing the complexities of planing for bike traffic on the american roadscape. This simple scenario also illustrates the complete inadequacies of planning for bikes in the transportation mix relying solely on bicyclist education and statutory vehicularity.
