Shona, what island are you planning to visit? I know all about riding on Oahu, and a little bit about riding in Kona, but beyond that, I may not be of much help. I rode up Haleakala last October, but don't have any other experience riding on Maui. I've never ridden on Kauai, but have traveled from Lihue to Waimea quite a bit.
