Not that many roads but easy to do 100 miles or more to get somewhere. You can ''try'' and climb Mauna Kea if you're so inclined. You'll need a MT bike for that though. I don't think it's paved al thw way, but I haven't beem up there in years so it may be paved but even still you'd need a triple at the least.
This guy claims that he rode his bike up Mauna Kea twice this year. He didn't say if he used a mountain bike or a road bike. Sea level to 13,200 feet.
