You are correct about the SLR being a designation, but... there was such a thing as a late 80's SLR brake model (non-group, part number BR-L491; with the brakes identical to the 105 SLR brakes of the era). The only designation on the levers and the brakes was "Shimano SLR" (I think that the part number of the levels was BL-L331)
