the common thing is that there is no such thing as a perfect saddle, one that will give you a relatively painless ride in all types of conditions. But doesn't this really mean that its more than just the sit bones? It might mean the way we ride. Or we can turn our attention to the padding on the shorts or bibs.
On hot and humid days, we're up against fabric irritation caused by our own sweat. On long rides, its prolonged irritation with little time spent on resting. On our visit to the bike fitter, its all about the perfect pedal stroke, first and foremost.
If I had a support van on longer rides, I would like to have extra pairs of shorts. But before I do the change, my butt has to dry out and butt cream reapplied. Imagine, sitting on a cold pack at a rest stop for 10 minutes, while you sip on your favorite hydration/nutrition drink, and then change into a dry pair of shorts.
