I haven't been to Austin in a while, but I used to go regularly and the Salt Lick was a favorite. So was Fonda San Miguel.
The summer I lived there (1982) I used to go to Matt's when it was a dive on the north side of the river. You could see them scooping out salsa from a 55-gal plastic trash can. It wasn't the same experience after they relocated.
