To me, the American Dream has lately come to have more to do with power than with freedom. We want the power to do whatever we desire among other naions. At home, we want the power to do what we desire among our neighbors. We are unwilling to accept the reality that living with others requires compromise and an awareness of the greater good. Private automobiles are a manifestation of this desire for power. We insist on having them, even when it has become clear that they detract from the greater good. We must be able to hop in the car and go wherever we want, wih no thought of the harm being done as a result of our actions.

What will change this? Only a great big reality check.
