It's readily apparent that *you* don't like triples and feel they should cease to exist, although only on "road" bikes as if that somehow justifies your position. What study confirms your "vast majority" of double crankset preferrers anyway? Or are you simply sampling what the pros are using?
Combining a compact crank with a wide range cassette is, in my opinion, about the worst gearing situation you could possibly create, though SRAM's literature makes it out to be the best. What a crock of shat. Not only do you now have a huge space in between cogs, you combine it with a huge gap between your chainrings. Brilliant!
