If your rear brakes still work to slow you down, I'd actually keep them squealing. Since your front brake handles most of the actual stopping, I've found having the rear brake as an 'alarm' of sorts. Most pedestrians don't think twice about a bell, but when you come up to them with your brakes swealing, they tend to get out of the way.
I am considering that too, although it only howls when the calipers are really digging in. Slowing down slowly doesn't cause it to howl. But when it howls, it really make itself known. Today at my office garage, the noise just echoes around the enclosure that some folks popped their head from their cars to see was that.
