Generally this type of 'push the envelope' thing doesn't make money. Hopefully it does trickle down, but assuming they'll make money on it is a bit much.
Of course they're going to make money on it. The manufacturing techniques they develop and use will be an advantage to their current or future line-up. Making things better for cheaper. It's all about money. They're obviously not developing bleeding edge technology to give away to the homeless or to starving kids in africa.
