The crank is still in the frame because I do not have a socket on hand that will fit inside the crank hole to take out the bolt. I will have to go get one somewhere
You'll also need a crank puller if you want it off. Like this:

Be sure you've removed the bolt washer, and carefully thread the puller in. It should go in easily without much resistance. If you don't have it threaded in properly, or in deep enough, you could strip the threads, which will make removal much more difficult.
