I guess the big thing here is that mechanical shifters are unlikely to go away. Won't Shimano still offer it? Seems there would be a strong market.

My concern is that it will become the standard. We're all afraid of change, especially when we like what we've got. We also don't like being upsold for added value, especially when it is questionable whether there is really any additional worth in electronic shifting. That's my biggest grumble.

So, if you don't want it, you probably don't have to use it. I would probably just keep the current methods, out of distaste for paying more for something like electronic shifting. It's cool, it works great, but so do my current 105 shifters. Not saying I wouldn't really like Dura Ace, I just can't afford it.

I'll probably feel differently about this when I can afford electronic shifting. If it really is that great, I'll probably have it some day. I just hope the other options are there.
