Ok I am normally good with this stuff but now I am swimming in confusion.

My 84 Fuji Touring III is 28-45-50 crank and 14-16-18-21-24-28 freehub. I was getting ready to change it to a 7speed 14-16-18-20-22-24-28 ramped hub so I could use my 7speed bar ends on the bike. So after reading this I seem to be headed in the right direction but really need to get something like a 47 middle ring to be closer to optimum.
