I hose it off--literally, with a garden hose--bounce it on the ground a few times to shake off the water, wipe it with an old towel and lube whatever needs it. Bearings are pretty well sealed these days, and I haven't found dirt or water inside in at least 15 years, when I was primarily a mountain biker and used to do water crossings all the time.
Cleaning a bike isn't hard, by the way. Back in my MB days, the team mechanics could do it in five minutes. Get a bucket of soapy water, a rag and a soft brush. Use the rag or brush to go over the whole bike, rinse with clean water, bounce, wipe, lube and ride.
