I don't look at mine that much anymore, and I also don't have a concrete goal for a particular ride's distance (example: used to want to do 20 miles; if I was 19.5 when I got home I'd keep riding til I hit 20 exactly). It's mainly an odometer for me now.
Riding has been much more fun for me now because I just set a general goal of where I want to go or about how far I go, and just ride.
