New bike - carbon road frame or carbon CX?
Hi guys - need some collective BF advice and abuse.
I have a BMC Streetfire as my regular riding/training bike. All-Rival, wired PT wheels. I finally have it tweaked "just so" and have no particular complaints with the bike itself.
However, after riding the Damocles, which I have at my other home (due to work reasons, I split time between 2 domiciles), I realize how much I enjoy the smooth, snappy ride of carbon. This is heightened by the fact that the roads on which I ride my BMC are very rough: chip-and-seal, cracks, small potholes, etc. Very, very jarring. I can deal with it for 1-2 hours, but after that, I really wish I had something which was a little more forgiving.
So I was thinking of getting a second bike. My plan is to continue to ride the BMC - which has a very aggressive setup with 130mm saddle-bar drop - for my intervals and shorter rides, and then set up the second bike for the longer base days (typically 3-5 hours in the saddle). I'd set this bike up with a slightly more upright position.
So do you think I should get a more compliant road bike (eg, Cervelo RS or Ridley Excalibur) or perhaps a CX-stylr bike, to which I can then add 700x28s? Pros and cons?
Rides are mostly solo, so twitchiness or handling in a pack are not concerns.
TIA,
V.
