How about this. Does anything EVER fit the same between brands? Of anything? Just because it's for a bike doesn't make it any different than anything else.
While I realize that there will always be a difference between brands and models, the question was is there THAT big of a difference. I could have driven a half hour to the good LBS only to find out that there isn't that big of a difference between shoes and they need to be a standard design because of physics, bike organization rules, etc. So just double checking before I make a trip for nothing.
