a true wheel is necessary as a gauge for the dag-1. in my shop, if a client comes in with bent rear der hanger and an out of true wheel, and can only afford the hanger straightening, i have my mechs put a new wheel in the frame and use that as a gauge. but you need a true wheel to straighten your der hanger.
