I totally agree. I am in the same position as the OP, having discovered that the winter has eaten everything of value off my dept. store beast. Now must go shopping and am overwhelmed with choices. So confooooosed! 'Specially when budget and space limit you to one bike. Internal gear hub? single-speed? flat bars? tourer? cyclocross? 29er? auughh! I am paralyzed by information overload.
