I think it would be appropriate to charge an hour of labor per tire (new one) - stretching, gluing, glue, etc. $65 give or take. If the shop charges substantially less, walk away. That's been my thinking.

An overworked, totally fatigued mechanic will make mistakes. You can tell when the rider has the "stretching wheels" on his bike when he rolls his tires early in the race and there is no glue on the tires. Heck, the Indy 500 has been lost at least once (big Dusenburg) when they installed a "use last" wheel on the car while in the lead. The Dusie went over the wall after the tire blew. Little driver made it okay though. It's not an excuse, just an explanation.

Tires rolled with glue on them, or sparse glue, that's not right.

I think Indurain raced with a tubular rear, clincher front. He wanted a clincher because he didn't want to roll a tire. I can't confirm this right now.
