Echoing the above comments about your partner liking the bike and wanting to ride it. Get her to pick it out- that said you could sort of lead to some choices.
If you have a Specialized dealer, ask her to consider one of the Vita models.
They seem to be a good balance of features & handle well. My 10 yo old son rode his more than 1500 km last season, including a sagged tour. Planning to do the the same this year, hopefully he hasn't out grown his bike.
