I was actually thinking about getting a second MS head, and adding a filter or replacing the glass to make a rear light. Except the that MS strobe mode sucks.

That's a different MS light than I have. Mine uses a P7 driver, which is four emitters on one die, but not 4 LEDs on one board.

Buying a white LED and filtering it would be a colossal waste of battery. You'd be throwing away 3/4 of your light - or in other terms, getting 1/4 of the battery life you should given the light you're getting. Buy a light with a red LED, or retrofit one in yourself.
