Nutted, long-reach, dual-pivot Tektro R556's - a how-to:

See:

The Headbadge: Converting a Tektro R556 front brake to nutted mounting

BF member tad originally posted about converting the R556's for use on his UO-8 in the SS/FG forum back in 2008, though the process of swapping the bolts wasn't described in detail.

Hence, I've put up a text & visual tutorial on The Headbadge to walk one through the process.

I hope that this tutorial may encourage BF members (and Google searchers) to refrain from Drewing their forks, and - equally importantly - to encourage everyone to NAG Tektro until they offer the 800A's nutted front mounting post as an aftermarket accessory. It's hard enough to locate 800A's to strip for the bolt in the first place.

Prior to locating my 800A, I had contacted Tektro to see about possibly getting the bolt alone, direct. This was their reply:

It's not available for after marketing for the hardware as we think you don't need to maintain it unless need different length.
It is time to pester them for a better reply then that. They made the R556 as a result of the Japanese constructeurs, after all. No reason why they can't make the 800A's bolt available.

I hope the tuturial is of use. It should apply to the R538 and the elusive Japan-market-only 900A as well.

Enjoy.
