You could equally confuse them by stating that you're not a pink gorilla. It seems like the statement "I'm not gay" regarding sidewalk versus road biking when confronting angry motorists denying your right to the road loads the term gay with negative connotation, which is a common and detestable practice.
This reminds me of the traffic skit by a comedian I saw(heard?) before... (don't know if it's real or made up, can't remember)stuck in traffic, the guy behind him starts honking. Clearly, there is no place to go, yet the guy keeps honking. Eventually he gets out of his car, and goes up to the car in front yelling at him to move! So the comedian yells back "give me back my coat!" The angry guy is now very confused, as the comedian keeps yelling at him to give him back his coat, because he borrowed it. So my angry gets back in his car, and stops with the yelling and honking, believing the comedian is bonkers.
