I agree with the go to a bike shop idea, but I read a thread a few days ago about a man who bought a $500 Shimano 105 bike from Walmart. I know it would probably be a stupid idea from the service and fitting point of view, but it is a cheap bike with great components, especially for a beginner. And tuneups for derailleurs and stuff like that at my local bike shop are like $15. It's hard to beat the price, but it's your decision if you want to take the chance with a walmart bike.

If you go to the store and try out the fit and you like it, you can get it online through Bing Cashback for 20% off, which then puts the price down to only $400
