Doesn't a single speed speak for itself? I mean, why does a single speed have to have a front and rear brake? I thought single speed was a bike with one speed and a freewheel vs fixed gear being a bike with a coaster brake.
A
fixed-gear bicycle (or
fixed wheel bicycle) is a
bicycle that has no
freewheel, meaning it cannot coast — the pedals are always in motion when the bicycle is moving.
A
single-speed bicycle is a type of
bicycle with a single
gear ratio. These bicycles are without
derailleur gears,
hub gearing or other methods for varying the gear ratio of the bicycle.
