The ol dVW engine cases/blocks were made of magnesium? Wow, I worked rebuilding those in the late 1970s/earl 1980s and don't remember any of the repair manuals refering to them as magnesium. Might have to dig a little deeper on that one myself.
Aluminum/magnesium/'steel' - yep, they are all used in industry as alloys, not the pure metal. I was just refering to them in the same context as is done on other threads here in BF (the enless debate on aluminum vs steel vs carbon fiber frames . . . but lets not go there now!).
FWIW: If the old VW engines are Mg, and considering how few of them are left on the road, it's nice to think any Mg pedals I buy for my bicyfles might be made of recycled VW engine blocks (oops; I mean 'cases'!)
