out with the old, in with the new...
I've had my Langster for about a year now and I want to upgrade the wheels. I'm hoping to fund the wheel build by rolling my change, using my tax return, and selling the old wheels. The wheels are still in decent shape. They're pretty true and round and the threads are all in good shape. What would be a fair price for the wheelset without a tires, cog, lockring, or freewheel? Do you think I could get $75 or more for the set? Have any of you sold your Langster wheels? If so, how much were you able to get for them?
And while we're talking about wheels... I'm thinking of 32 hole Open Pros on Surly low flange hubs with 14/15/14 guage spokes front and back (maybe 15/17/15 for the front) in a 3x pattern. Any other suggestions that would hit within about $50 of this price range? I'm 135 pounds and I don't want deep sectioned rims or high flange hubs. A major reasons for the new wheels is to smooth out the ride a little. I've been doing longer rides on the bike and I hope to do a full century on it this summer. The combo of the aluminum frame and fork and the current high flange/semi-v-sectioned rims is a little stiff for me on long rides.
