Any former BMX'ers in here?

If so, please answer me these:

A) Why on earth do I see BMX bikes with the saddle nose point practically straight up? What purpose can that possible serve? Colonoscopy?

B) Then you see them with the saddle slammed all the way down to the seat lug (as such), there is no possible way to sit on the bike AND pedal at the same time, because the distance between the top of the saddle and the top of the pedal stroke is like 4 inches (or some ridiculously small amount).

I've been pondering these for some time, and can't come up with anything, so I thought I'd ask.

Yeah, I'm old. And I don't get it.
