I pay $55 per semester for public transportation.

Times to school:

Walk to 2nd bus stop and ride bus: 30 minutes.
Ride bus and transfer to other bus to ride it: 20 minutes
Ride bike: 15 minutes

Time to work:

Walk to train and ride train: 27 minutes
Ride bus to train and catch train: 14 minutes
Ride bike: 14 minutes

Transit and cycling are pretty close for me, and pretty inexpensive.

Then again, my work is just by a train station and I live Downtown...
