The bump you speak of sounds like it's independent of the breaks... so changing the breaks won't eliminate the bump. I'd say that unless you feel like you need more stopping power, don't worry about switching. But if you did want to upgrade anyway, the LBS that sold the bike to you would most likely give you credit for the value of the stock breaks to apply toward a better set.
