I had a similar experience, which I detailed in the commuting forum. It's definitely in beta. At one point it had me cross 4 lanes of traffic to go into a little industrial alley for about 4 blocks and then cross the same 4 lanes of traffic to get back on the street I was on. Where as it's easier to just stay on that street which is much more bike friendly than the alley. It also routed me along one section of highway that I consider a death zone for its potholes, narrow lanes, heavy traffic and complete lack of sidewalks.

It's one tool to use when planning routes, but I sure wouldn't take it as gospel.
