That cyclists aren't permitted to claim the whole lane on a street with a bike lane. Street signage sometimes abets this myth. At several points around town I see signs reminding motorists that "Bicycles may use whole lane." This can be taken to suggest that cyclists do not have this right by default. And the very existence of a dedicated bike lane confuses some motorists about a cyclist's right to the rest of it.
