I've been off the bike mostly for about 9 months due to an injury. I'm so out of shape it's irritating me.
Yesterday I biked from the 2/3-way point (a MARTA station). About 3 miles, raining on and off. It's good to be back.
Today, I'm feeling the burn. I missed my first bus by several minutes, rode the above station and watched my second bus go by ahead of me so I kept on riding. At about that point, I got passed by a lycra-clad weekend warrior. Luckily for me, I was able to engage my Clydesdale Gravity Drive and keep up with him on light rolling hills for about a mile until our routes diverged. (I'm, of course, dressed very Fred and carrying a garment back pannier with a non-aerodynamic soft-sided lunchbox slung off it on my expedition-sized rear rack). The look on his face (

) and the double-take he did when we went over a speed bump, he heard my brake hoses slap my frame, and he looked back to see me keeping pace and waving: oh, that made my ride!
It truly is good to be back even if riding aggravates my repetitive stress injury.
