late to the party on this, but.

removable cores usually have 2 flat sides to the threaded part where you can screw the valve cap on. simply take a pair of needle nose pliers to both the flat sides and turn counter-clockwise. The rest of the stem that goes into the tube is a bit darker in color than the bit thats removable, at the end.

now some tubulars do not have removable cores, the vittoria rallye is the only one i have seen tho. this threaded section is not flattened on either side and its the same brassy color as the rest of the stem.
