I so often pick up basket cases, but when I saw this Dawes Atlantis, I bought it thinking it was cherry.

Then, a week or two ago, just as I was finally starting give it a good cleaning and overhaul, I found the right pedal was stuck: Cross threaded SO badly, that I had to CUT it out of the crank. Still, the alloy was so galled up in the pedal threads that I had to buy a new 9/16” die at the local production tool supply to chase it, AND of course, buy a new crank.
Today I took it out for it’s inaugural ride and it skipped once or twice when I was sprinting up a hill -so now it’s a new freewheel and chain. Arrg!

Is it me? - or does everyone have these little catastrophes every time they get a new bike?

Anyway, it’s an ’82 Atlantis, Reynolds 531 dbl butted frame and forks, Suntour Cyclone and a (replacement) Shimano Ultegra tricolor crank.
