Bikes: 1962 Rudge Sports, 1971 Raleigh Super Course, 1971 Raleigh Pro Track, 1974 Raleigh International, 1975 Viscount Fixie, 1982 McLean, 1996 Lemond (Ti), 2002 Burley Zydeco tandem

rhm, I hope to photograph the bikes fully soon. In the meantime, here is my memory:

Motobecane Super Mirage from about 1977. Quick release front wheel, nutted rear wheel. 23" frame. Alloy rims and cranks. SR cranks, Weinmann rims and brakes, SunTour derailleurs. Excellent condition, mechanically and aesthetically, except for a gummy rear derailleur. I think I can clean and repair it. $75.

Two Zebrakenkos. The diamond frame is double butted chromoly. Has Suntour Cyclone derailleurs, very clean. About a 19" frame. Gorgeous. $28! The mixte is a slightly lower model but very nice. The bars and stem have been replaced with extremely tasteful British parts, including an aluminum all-rounder (nearly straight) bar. Probably 19" frame. $25! Both of these were barely ridden.

Phillips 3-speed made by Raleigh. Ladies frame. Decent condition but needs work. Missing rear fender struts. Missing 3-speed cable, indicator chain, and trigger.

Trek 800 Antelope mountain bike. Barely ridden. 18" frame.

Philips plus Trek were $150 combined.

Late 70's or early 80's Windsor 12-speed (I think) with all alloy components. I think it's double-butted hi-ten (regular carbon steel) frame. 21" frame, I think.

Nishiki racing bike in excellent condition. Can't remember details but it rides like a dream. Indexed downtube shifters. Toe clips.

Windsor plus Nishiki were $180 combined.

You've seen the Nishiki here on C&V.

My gas cost me about $35.

I occasionally drove at stupid speeds on the highway. Passed a few troopers but didn't get stopped. I gotta get out of that habit. Listened to public radio most of the time. Listened to a podcast of This American Life on my ipod, connected to my stereo.

I stumbled into an old bike shop, who happened to know the seller of the Phillips and Trek. He flips a lot of bikes, and they do the mechanical work for him. He buys at garage sales. Unfortunately, I found a lot of unsafe things about the bikes, so I plan to recommend to him that he do a better job, for his customers' sake and for his reputation's sake. Maybe alert the bike shop that they could and should do better.

Andrew F, thanks for the tip. Where in NJ are you?
