I've crossed into Canada twice from the US by touring bike. Both times, the Canadian border agents asked me only one real question. "Are you carrying any weapons or firearms?" I truthfully answered no and was on my way with well wishes.

I'd be surprised if there are unposted border crossing points along the US/Canadian border. I don't think he wandered into Canada by accident.
