You say that your primary way to make a living is as an independent computer consultant. Did you form an LLC or is it strictly a cash type business (no need to answer that here). If you have an LLC, why not expend your "business" to include both interests and start capitalizing on your expenses for both, including any travel costs? Just a thought.
