Bikes: Crosslake Aluminum Track

From SSGF: Crank Creak?

It seems every time I apply pressure to the pedals lately the cranks/bottom bracket/something in that vicinity emit a creaking noise. I tightened down my crank bolts, which seemed to alleviate the problem slightly, but they still are a bit creaky whenever I apply backpressure on the pedals, or am trackstanding.

I don't think my BB is lose, and I don't feel like going and finding someone with the tool to tighten it just to make sure (plus I hear its not a good idea to overtighten it) - but if it is how can I tell?

(Maybe a stupid question) : Are you supposed to lubricate the square taper on the BB or something?

Any suggestions?

- Thanks in advance.
