I don't know if you're old enough to remember, but everybody was saying this same thing back in the 1960s, only they were saying we would have famine and human extinction when we reached 4 billion population. Although there is too much hunger in today's world of 6 billion people, most people are better fed than they were in the 60s. (Google
"population bomb" for example.)
