Smoothing Giant ISP

I'm am about to start "smoothing" the top of the ISP on a Giant TCR Advanced SL, as the cut from the bike shop is not as true as I would like, and I would like any shims that I might use to make more positive contact with the top of the ISP. I re-installed the cutting guide, and have anywhere from no material to remove at the back of the post up to about 1mm at the front. I planned on using fine emory cloth. Any other ideas/recommendations?
