Ellipses (mavic ellipses wheelset right?) doesn't look so bad. Really depends on frame color, I think. It would look bad on mine, tho. I have seen some on Vel0space.
I also saw a NJS bike with threadless headset (at C$cly in Tokyo). It used an old Nitto's CrMo stem (for 1inch column Ahead) which is pretty slim almost like their quills. Very classy looking.
